Discover Mike O'shays Restaurant & Ale House

Walking into Mike O'shays Restaurant & Ale House for the first time feels like stepping into a spot that already knows you. I remember dropping by after a long weekday, expecting a quick bite, and staying far longer than planned because the atmosphere made it easy to relax. Located at 512 Main St, Longmont, CO 80501, United States, this place has become a familiar name among locals who appreciate comfort food, a solid beer list, and a dining room that never feels rushed.

The menu is where the experience really starts to shine. From hearty burgers and fish and chips to lighter salads and shareable appetizers, there’s a clear focus on approachable American pub food done right. During one visit, I watched a nearby table split a plate of loaded nachos while debating which house ale to try next, a scene that seems to repeat itself nightly. The kitchen follows a straightforward process: fresh ingredients, consistent prep, and recipes that don’t try to reinvent classics but instead refine them. That reliability shows up in reviews again and again, especially from repeat customers who know exactly what they’re coming back for.

Beer lovers tend to linger here, and for good reason. The ale house concept isn’t just a name; it’s built into how the bar operates. According to data from the Brewers Association, craft beer sales continue to represent a significant share of on-premise dining experiences across the U.S., and Mike O’shays reflects that trend with rotating taps and familiar favorites. I’ve had servers explain the flavor profile of a seasonal brew in plain language, making it easy even for someone new to craft beer to order confidently. That kind of knowledge adds to the feeling that the staff actually cares about what they’re serving.

What stands out most is consistency, something restaurant consultants often point to as the backbone of long-term success. The National Restaurant Association regularly notes that diners value dependable quality just as much as creativity, and this spot clearly understands that balance. Over multiple visits, the burgers arrived cooked as ordered, the fries stayed crisp, and the service remained friendly without being overbearing. One regular I chatted with mentioned he stops in weekly because he knows it will be, a safe bet for a good meal, no surprises attached.

The location on Main Street also plays a role in its popularity. Being close to local shops and offices makes it an easy choice for lunch, dinner, or a casual meetup. Parking can be a little tight during peak hours, which is worth noting, but most guests seem to agree it’s a small trade-off for a central location. Reviews often mention the welcoming vibe, with phrases like feels like a neighborhood hangout popping up more than once.

From a trust standpoint, there’s transparency in how the restaurant operates. Hours, menu updates, and seasonal specials are clearly communicated, and pricing stays reasonable compared to similar diners and pubs in the area. While no restaurant is perfect every single night, occasional waits during busy weekends are usually offset by attentive staff who keep guests informed. That honesty goes a long way in building loyalty.

Eating here doesn’t feel like chasing a trend; it feels like settling into something familiar that’s been done with care. Whether you’re scanning the menu for comfort food, checking reviews before choosing a dinner spot, or simply looking for a reliable ale house in Longmont, the experience delivers in a way that feels genuine and grounded in real hospitality.

  • The bartender was so attentive and polite. I ordered the Wednesday night special which is prime rib and it was great. Try the Irish eggrolls. The hollindaise sauce is good!

  • Absolutely a must visit! Great food and extremely friendly staff. Who can say no to a Guinness on tap? (Smithwick’s is my favorite) The Shepard’s Pie was absolutely phenomenal. Even better than mine.

  • Yeah, excellent. Comfort food with some classics as well as some Irish specialties. Atmosphere is nice and relaxed. Portions are good and fair. Super good potatos and gravy and you can’t go wrong with bangers & mash. I think I could probably go for some mixed veg rather than just peas at the price point, but we love it here.

  • This place is fantastic. They have a ton of gluten free dishes and really good food. Husband has a guiness with a fun design. We shared cheese curds (Gf) he had a pork schnitzel and I had chicken fried chicken with mashed potatoes and gravy (Gf) we came on a Friday night and it wasn't over crowded. Prices are reasonable, we will be back.

  • A great restaurant that cares for the community. We had a lovely gathering/fundraising event for a charitable cause and the venue answered our call and donated 25% of the sales we brought in to the charity. Everyone loved the food (came out really fast) and the service was on point. The highlight was the image "printing" on top of the draft Guiness. (See picture) A staple of downtown Longmont, highly recommend visiting them if you're in the area.

  • We first visited Mike O'Shays on Aug 20th for dinner. An American replica of a true Irish public house since 1981. We sat at the bar. We were greeted by the affable Andrea N. who brought us drinks & menus. Wine by the glass ($11), local draft beers ($6.50) and a pint of Guinness ($9). Large serving of chopped steak salad ($18) & chicken mac & cheese ($18) - large tasty meals served hot/cold as appropriate. This place was so friendly & Andrea made us first-time visitors feel very welcomed. Open Mon-Thu 11am-9pm, Fri & Sat 11am-10pm, Sun 11am-8pm. Happy hour 2-5pm. Free public lot on the backside along this busy eclectic neighborhood. Highly recommended as we went back here two more times during our five days in Longmont, CO. Thank you again to Andrea & Doug for great friendly service. Slainte! Nick & Liz, Albany, NY, USA

  • Had a family dinner while visiting my brother. Staff and customers are super nice and friendly. Excellent food and timely refills. Had the fish and chips. Fish was crispy on the outside and juicy on the inside, chips were fantastic. Parmesan artichoke dip was out of this world!! Lemonade great, raspberry champagne wonderful, my brother had the shepherds pie which was amazing. Definitely superior experience.
